Katie and Sara met while attending college at SUNY New Paltz. They had a lot of mutual friends and whenever they’d get together, they would always find themselves searching for fun and adventure around New Paltz at late hours of the night! After graduation, they began connecting periodically in New York City. They’d grab a meal, rooftop hop and day dream. When Katie quit her corporate job in January 2018, one of the first calls she made was to Sara to propose the notion of a barter: Sara helping Katie with various graphics for her new business(es) in exchange for Katie working as Sara’s business coach, holding her accountable for taking steps each week to share her art and talent with the world. Big ideas started coming to fruition in October 2018 after Katie called Sara for help bringing a visualization of her new yoga and mindfulness business to life. The logo for Peace in Piermont was birthed that October. In months following, Sara would also create logos and graphics for Katie’s fine jewelry brand, P2U Jewelry.
The big call came September 2019 when Katie called Sara to ask if she’d illustrate her first children’s book. It was synchronistic timing now; both Katie and Sara were ready to go all-in to collaborate on the writing project that would become the Give Your Brain a Bath Book Series. With the help of Katie’s dear friend turned editor Blythe Robbins, the books were mapped out... As a creative team, inclusivity is the most important aspect of their collaborative work. They are working to publish an array of books that represent culturally, socio-economically diverse, gender inclusive and able-bodied characters. They are constantly sharing ideas of characters that have various visible disabilities, skin conditions, and limb differences. As a creative team, they want any human being to pick up one of their books and identify with the characters within it.
